• Camouflage – Lots of moth species are very well camouflaged, helping them blend into their surroundings. This adaptation aids in avoiding predators during the day when they are at rest.
• Life Cycle – Moths undergo a complete metamorphosis, consisting of four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis or cocoon), and adult. The larval stage is often the feeding stage, where the caterpillar consumes food before pupating.
• Feeding Habits – Moths demonstrate a wide range of feeding habits. Some moths feed on nectar, just like butterflies, while others do not feed at all as adults, focusing on reproduction during their short adult lifespan.
• Diversity – There is a wide diversity of moth species, with a wide range of sizes, colours, and patterns. Some are brightly coloured, and others have more subtle tones to aid with camouflage.
