• Body Structure – Moths typically have stout and hairy bodies. Moth bodies may appear less slender compared with butterflies.
• Camouflage – Lots of moth species are very well camouflaged, which helps them blend into their surroundings. This adaptation aids in avoiding predators during the day while they are at rest.
• Life Cycle – Moths undergo complete metamorphosis, consisting of 4 stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis or cocoon), and adult. The larval stage is usually the feeding stage, where the caterpillar consumes food before pupating.
• Feeding Habits – Moths demonstrate a wide range of feeding habits. Some moths feed on nectar, just like butterflies, while others do not feed at all as adults, focusing on reproduction during their short-tem adult lifespan.
• Diversity – There is a wide diversity of moth species, with a wide range of colours, sizes and patterns. Some are brightly coloured, and others have more muted tones for camouflage.

It’s important to note that while there are common characteristics shared by moths, there is a wide variation among the many species, each adapted to its own ecological niche and lifestyle.
