• Camouflage – Lots of moth species are very well camouflaged, which helps them blend into their surroundings. This adaptation aids in avoiding predators during the day while they are at rest.
• Life Cycle – Moths undergo a complete metamorphosis, consisting of four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis or cocoon), and adult. The larval stage is normally the feeding stage, where the caterpillar consumes food before pupating.
• Feeding Habits – Moths demonstrate a wide variety of feeding behaviour. Some moths feed on nectar, just like butterflies, while others do not feed at all as adults, focusing on reproduction during their short-tem adult lifespan.
• Diversity – There is an incredible diversity of moth species, with a wide variety of sizes, colours, and patterns. Some are brightly coloured, while others have more muted tones for camouflage.
