The Problem / Challenge

Mr & Mrs D from Southwark, SE1 had been on holidays for a 10-day break and returned to their apartment in the early hours of Thursday morning.  Mr D went straight to the bedroom with their cases, whilst Mrs D went into the kitchen to put the kettle on for a cup of tea.  It was then that Mr D heard his wife scream out, so he then ran straight into the kitchen to see what had upset his wife.  By the time he got to the kitchen she as hysterically pushing the door shut and shouting that the kitchen was full of flies.

Mr D wasn’t entirely sure why the kitchen was full of flies, but he wasn’t to keen to find out.  It was then that Mr D gave me an early call at 7am and we arranged an urgent visit.

The Pest2Kill Solution:

We understood that it was imperative to attend the site immediately, as the problem needed to be dealt with, from experience we suspected that as the apartment had been empty whilst they were away, flies breed fast, and can turn into a large infestation.

Having established from Mr D that they couldn’t stay in the apartment as they wouldn’t have slept, so checked into an AIR BB until they knew the problem was sorted and his wife was enjoying breakfast whilst he had come to let me in. Once we had carried out an inspection it was then that the problem was discovered to be much worse than a few flies.  It was quickly determined that we were now dealing with an infestation.  The source of the infestation was quickly found, a Tupperware container which Mr D had used to keep his maggots in for fishing (which he thought he had emptied but hadn’t) had been left on the kitchen worktop in the rush to finish packing to go on his holiday.  The lid on the Tupperware container was not tightly on, so when the maggots turned into adult flies, they had infested the kitchen.  Luckily the kitchen door being closed had contained the infestation.

A Chemical treatment was required on the skirtings, floors, cupboards, and worktops, throughout the apartment to eradicate any larvae.  A second fogging fumigation treatment was also carried out to destroy any airborne flies. Due to the strength of the chemicals used once the treatments are carried out there should be no access to the property for a minimum of 3 hours.  As Mr & Mrs D were staying in an Air BB until the problem was eradicated this wasn’t an issue, so the treatments were completed that morning.  The following day we contacted Mr D to ensure that the treatment had been successful, he confirmed that when he had arrived that morning that the infestation had been eradicated.

Client Feedback:

Thanks again for attending the same day and completing the treatment to eradicate the fly infestation, I know it was a very early call! As you can imagine my wife was distraught and shocked returning from holiday to find the infestation, so it was imperative that the problem was dealt with urgently.  I don’t think I allowed to go fishing again! Totally, professional service, excellent rates, so impressed we have kept your details just in case we have any problems in the future
